Mind & Behavioural Wellness
Mental illness is not weakness. It is not a character flaw or a failure of willpower. It is a medical condition as real, as biological, and as treatable as diabetes or hypertension. Depression affects 56 million Indians. Anxiety disorders affect another 38 million. Addiction, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder collectively affect tens of millions more. Yet stigma, lack of awareness, and inadequate mental health infrastructure mean that the vast majority of people with psychiatric conditions in India never receive any treatment at all. MNR Hospital's Psychiatry Department exists to change that reality at least for the patients and families who come to us.
Our Psychiatry and Mental Health Department provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient psychiatric services in a confidential, non-judgmental clinical environment. Our psychiatrists manage the full spectrum of psychiatric conditions including major depressive disorder, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. We run a dedicated de-addiction programme for alcohol and drug dependency with medically supervised detoxification, counselling, and long-term relapse prevention support. Our inpatient psychiatric ward provides a safe, structured environment for patients requiring acute stabilisation, with a clear focus on rapid return to community functioning.
Medical psychiatry and psychological therapy work best in combination. Our clinical psychologists and trained counsellors work alongside psychiatrists to provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, family therapy, and group therapy sessions. Child and adolescent mental health services are available for younger patients. We recognise that the family of a person with mental illness is also under enormous strain family education and carer support are integral parts of our care model.
