Cardiology is the branch of medicine dedicated to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the heart and the cardiovascular system. It encompasses everything from the management of common conditions like hypertension and high cholesterol to the diagnosis of complex structural heart defects, arrhythmias, and coronary artery disease. A strong cardiology department is not simply a measure of hospital quality it is a lifeline for communities where heart disease remains the leading cause of mortality.

The heart does not give second chances easily. That is why timely, accurate diagnosis and skilled intervention are everything in cardiovascular care. Advances in echocardiography, cardiac MRI, nuclear imaging, and catheter-based procedures have revolutionised how cardiologists detect and treat disease often eliminating the need for open surgery and dramatically shortening recovery times.

Cardiology at MNR Hospital

At MNR Hospital, the Department of Cardiology was established with the conviction that patients across Coastal Karnataka should never have to travel to Bengaluru, Chennai, or Mumbai for world-class cardiac care. Our unit is staffed by a panel of eight senior cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, many of whom have trained at premier institutions and bring sub-specialty expertise in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and heart failure management.

Our cardiac wing is equipped with two fully functional cardiac catheterisation laboratories, a dedicated Cardiac ICU with round-the-clock intensivist cover, and a non-invasive diagnostics suite housing echocardiography, treadmill stress testing, Holter monitoring, and digital ambulatory BP recording. We perform primary angioplasty for acute heart attacks, pacemaker implantations, device therapy for arrhythmias, and valve interventions all within our campus at Kolambe, Bajpe.

Beyond acute care and interventions, the MNR Cardiology team places enormous emphasis on preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. We run structured programmes for high-risk patients including those with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and a family history of heart disease helping them make the lifestyle, dietary, and medical changes needed to prevent their first heart event, or a recurrence. Our patient counselling team ensures that every patient leaves not just treated, but educated and empowered. Because the best cardiac outcome is the one that never needed emergency intervention in the first place.
