Every Child Deserves the Best Start
Pediatrics is the branch of medicine dedicated to the health and wellbeing of infants, children,
and adolescents from the moment of birth through the age of 18. It is among the most
emotionally rewarding and technically demanding specialties in medicine, because children are
not simply small adults. Their physiology, pharmacology, developmental milestones, and disease
presentations differ fundamentally from adults, and caring for them requires specific training,
child-appropriate equipment, and environments that put young patients and their families at
ease.
The scope of pediatrics spans neonatal medicine caring for premature and sick newborns —
through general pediatric illness, respiratory and cardiac conditions in children, childhood
cancers, developmental disorders such as autism and ADHD, and adolescent health. A well-run
pediatrics department is the heartbeat of a hospital's maternal and child health programme,
working hand-in-hand with obstetrics, neonatal nursing, and pediatric surgery to ensure every
child gets the safest possible start.
Pediatrics at MNR Hospital
The Department of Pediatrics at MNR Hospital is one of the most comprehensive in the region,
combining a 20-bed Level III NICU, a dedicated Pediatric ICU, and a large outpatient pediatric
wing designed specifically to be welcoming to children and their families. Our neonatology team
manages extremely premature infants from 26 weeks gestation, babies with sepsis, respiratory
distress, congenital anomalies, and metabolic disorders with a survival rate that benchmarks
favourably against national tertiary centres.
Our outpatient pediatric service covers the full range of childhood conditions: recurrent
respiratory infections, asthma, febrile illness, nutritional concerns, developmental delay,
epilepsy in childhood, and adolescent health. We run a structured National Immunisation
Programme clinic with the full recommended vaccine schedule, and our well-baby clinic tracks
growth, nutrition, and developmental milestones from birth. Our child-friendly consultation
rooms, play areas, and nursing team trained in pediatric communication make every visit less
stressful for both children and parents.
