Gynecology and Obstetrics is the medical specialty that addresses the unique health needs of women spanning reproductive health, pregnancy and childbirth, hormonal wellbeing, and surgical management of pelvic and uterine conditions. It is one of the most multifaceted specialties in medicine, requiring a combination of surgical skill, hormonal expertise, psychological sensitivity, and the ability to manage two patients simultaneously during pregnancy mother and child.
The field has been transformed by minimally invasive surgery, advances in fetal medicine, and improved neonatal intensive care. Today, conditions that once required major open surgery are managed laparoscopically, pregnancies once deemed too high-risk can be closely monitored and safely delivered, and premature babies born as early as 26 weeks routinely survive and thrive in modern NICUs. Access to this level of care is no longer a metropolitan privilege it is what MNR Hospital brings to Coastal Karnataka.
Our department is staffed by nine senior gynecologists, obstetricians, and maternal-fetal medicine specialists who collectively manage over 100 deliveries per month. The unit includes dedicated labour suites with one-to-one nursing, three modular operation theatres for laparoscopic and open procedures, a high-risk obstetric unit, and a Level III NICU managed by a dedicated team of neonatologists and NICU nurses. We handle all forms of high-risk pregnancy — including twins, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, placenta praevia, and preterm labour.
Our laparoscopic surgery programme covers the full range of gynecological procedures: ovarian cystectomy, myomectomy, endometriosis resection, laparoscopic hysterectomy, and tubal procedures. Our fertility clinic offers structured evaluation and IUI services, with referrals for IVF made in close coordination with partner centres. Cervical cancer screening through colposcopy and HPV testing is routinely offered, and we run an active menopause and PCOS management clinic.
