Kidney Health & Renal Care
The kidneys perform one of the most critical functions in the human body filtering approximately 180 litres of blood every day, regulating blood pressure, balancing electrolytes, and producing hormones essential for red blood cell production and bone health. When kidney function declines, the consequences ripple across every organ system. Nephrology is the specialty dedicated to understanding, diagnosing, and treating this complex organ from the earliest stages of chronic kidney disease, when lifestyle intervention can meaningfully slow progression, to advanced renal failure requiring dialysis or transplantation.
The Nephrology Department at MNR Hospital is built around two pillars: early detection and comprehensive renal replacement therapy. Our nephrologists conduct regular screening clinics targeting high-risk populations diabetics, hypertensives, and those with a family history of kidney disease because early intervention is the most powerful tool available in kidney disease management. Our dialysis unit operates 20 fully equipped haemodialysis stations running morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, seven days a week. Peritoneal dialysis is available for eligible patients who prefer home-based therapy. We work closely with tertiary transplant centres to prepare and manage pre- and post-transplant patients.
Chronic kidney disease demands long-term lifestyle adaptation in diet, fluid intake, medications, and monitoring. Our renal dietitian and CKD nurse specialist work alongside the nephrology team to support patients through every stage of their disease journey. Patient education sessions, individualised diet plans, and structured follow-up programmes help our patients maintain the best possible quality of life while preserving kidney function for as long as possible.
