Licensed 24/7 blood bank with full component therapy, rigorous safety screening, and rapid availability for surgical, obstetric, and haematological emergencies.
Safe Blood, Every Time
A safe, reliable blood supply is a fundamental infrastructure requirement for any hospital providing surgical, obstetric, oncological, or trauma care. Blood transfusion can be the difference between life and death in acute haemorrhage, post-surgical anaemia, haematological malignancy, and haemolytic disease. Transfusion medicine has evolved dramatically beyond simple whole blood transfusion modern blood banking involves complex immunohaematology, component separation to maximise the benefit of each donation, rigorous infectious disease screening, and evidence-based transfusion protocols to minimise both the risks of over-transfusion and the waste of a precious, donor-dependent resource.
MNR Hospital operates a licensed, fully equipped blood bank that functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our blood bank maintains a stock of all blood groups in packed red cells, fresh frozen plasma, platelet concentrates, and cryoprecipitate enabling us to rapidly support surgical, obstetric, and haematological emergencies at any hour. All donated units undergo mandatory testing for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, syphilis, and malaria before being cleared for issue. We perform full ABO and Rh blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching, and direct and indirect Coomb's testing. Our apheresis unit can collect single-donor platelets for platelet-refractory patients and haematopoietic stem cells for transplant programmes.
MNR Hospital actively conducts voluntary blood donation camps in the community, at schools, colleges, and workplaces because a sustainable blood supply depends on a culture of regular voluntary donation. We provide a safe, comfortable environment for donors, with pre-donation counselling, post-donation refreshments, and feedback on blood group and basic health parameters. Every unit donated saves up to three lives through component separation.
